The Bernie Sanders Presidential campaign engaged Cooke to create and host endorsement videos with Cornel West, Mark Ruffalo, Harry Belafonte, Josh Hucherson, Justin Long, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Susan Sarandon, Richard Roundtree and more.
For his social activism Cooke’s been invited to speak at NYU, University of Texas, TEDx in Vienna, and was invited to join artists John Legend, Common, Jessie Williams, Danny Glover, and Macklemore as a part of Sankofa (Harry Belafonte’s organization of artists for social change).
Cooke’s career in social impact began as the Producer and Editor of the Academy Award Nominated Documentary DELIVER US FROM EVIL (Amy Berg’s expose on pedophilia in the Catholic Church). The film made over 100 critics “best of” lists and is one of Rotten Tomatoes top 100 best reviewed movies of all time. This was Cooke’s first feature film.
Cooke got his start in the early 2000s acting and directing short films and comedy sketches for FUEL TV while working as a graphic designer for Capital Records. Within a few years Cooke founded a garage based dot-com which quickly found backing from AOL / Time-Warner. The company grew from a team of 3 to over 40 designers and programers who Cooke oversaw as Chief Creative Officer. Over the next year Cooke’s creative direction earned him a BEST OF THE WEB Award from PRINT Magazine, a WEBBY AWARD and a professor position at Otis College of Art & Design before he shifted careers into filmmaking.
In 2010 Cooke produced and edited the critically acclaimed HBO Documentary TEENAGE PAPARAZZO featuring Adrian Grenier, Matt Damon, Whoopie Goldberg, Alec Baldwin, Lewis Black and Rosie O’Donnell…
In 2013 Cooke wrote, directed, shot, cut, narrated and composed the motion graphics for the smash hit documentary HOW TO MAKE MONEY SELLING DRUGS featuring Eminem, 50 Cent, Susan Sarandon, Woody Harrelson and David Simon (creator of HBO’s The Wire). HOW TO MAKE MONEY SELLING DRUGS was bought and distributed by Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Film where it shot to #1 on iTunes and Amazon Prime. Despite its controversial nature, DRUGS was heavily supported by Time / Warner cable on-demand, won the audience awards at every festival it screened and earned the International Documentary Association’s “BEST WRITING AWARD” for 2013.
In 2014 Cooke and Emmy Award Winning Producer Steve DeVore began shooting the documentary SURVIVORS GUIDE TO PRISON (executive produced by Susan Sarandon) featuring Quincy Jones, Patricia Arquette, Deepak Chopra, Russell Simmons, Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Brandon Boyd (Incubus), Method Man, Warren G and many more. Produced by Steve DeVore, Adrian Grenier and David and Christina Arquette. The film has just recently been completed.
In 2015 Cooke and DeVore sold a science fiction television series RAPID EYE MOVEMENT to Amazon studios based on a short concept trailer Cooke wrote and directed.RAPID EYE MOVEMENT is being produced by former FOX Studio head Hutch Parker (producer of the X-Men and Wolverine franchises).
In 2016 famed indie producer Orian Williams (Control, Big Sur) became officially attached to SABOTAGE: A LOVE STORY, Cooke’s narrative feature film debut as writer-director-actor. And now Cooke is proud to join the incredible team at FOR GOOD to continue a lifetime commitment to social impact through the arts.
